MOTHER BY CHOICE NOT CHANCE!
It was there in black and white on the rear bumper of a mini-van parked in front of my son's elementary school, a bumper sticker that read MOTHER BY CHOICE NOT CHANCE. How do you get pregnant by "chance"? Is there a new state lottery I don't know about?
Being ''Pro-Choice'' in education, I have always been offended by pro-abortion people co-opting this very positive term. Now they are redefining another term to suit their needs: ''chance''.
One thing we have in common with every other living creature on earth is reproduction. It comes naturally. While nearly every other creature lives for no other reason than to perpetuate their species, we have developed a society where we can choose the time we will reproduce. We can choose to have children as soon as we are physically capable or to wait until we are well nested, or to never have children, it's our choice, God willing.
When we engage in sexual intercourse, we have exercised our right to choose. Like most other creatures of the world, our act of having sex will usually result in a pregnancy. Unless by chance the timing is wrong or some other misfortune befalls the couple. Some of us choose to take precautions to reduce the risk of pregnancy. Whatever the case, the 'chance' occurs after the choice.
Try picking your horse after they've left the starting gate. If you choose to jump off a tall bridge, chances are you are going to die. Try making your choice once you're airborne. Go ahead. Take the chance; it's your life.
Once you have chosen to engage in unprotected sexual intercourse, you can assume that the natural result will ultimately be the birth of a child. This is something you cannot 'unchoose'. In a sense you're airborne. There is another life involved and it's not yours. You have no right either granted by God, nature, or the State, to end that life. Remember, Roe v. Wade was about privacy, not abortion. The State does not have the authority to decide the life or death of the innocent. People who think the state has given us the right to have an abortion have in effect given up more rights that they realize. The Constitution protects our right to life. It is the most important right we have, and deserves better than a few irrational words on a bumper sticker.
