REAL CHANGE AND HOPE
9/5/08
To the Editor,
This letter is in response to one written by
Warren Glasser who tried to admonish me for “attacking” Barrack Obama and
previous Liberal candidates when I made a very reasoned case that they do not
represent change. Mr. Glasser dared to compare my carefully articulated argument
to the ad hominem Liberal attacks on President Bush. He suggested that I had
violated my Grandparents’ wishes of not saying anything if I didn’t have
anything nice to say about somebody. That was very presumptuous and way off the
mark. Knowing what my Grandparents stood for, I am sure they would be proud of
my ideological stand and I have been told so by people who knew them.
On the other hand, I am not sure my Mother would
be so proud. She spent 22 years of her life employed by the State of New York
where she was subjected to a relentless barrage of Bush bashing. I tried to
present reasoned arguments to change her opinion of President Bush but was no
match for the emotionally charged rhetoric she had been bombarded with on an
hourly basis. Toward the end of her life we could not discuss politics. I will
never forget the hatred that Liberals infected her kind and loving heart with
and I will always attempt to educate others with what I observe as a government
watchdog.
With that in mind, I recently wrote that the only candidates who could
legitimately claim to represent “change” would be Conservatives. I said that
Liberals seem to steal the term for use in their campaigns in order to prevent
their opponents from using it legitimately. It seems that I was speaking for
many in light of John McCain’s V.P. choice of Sarah Palin. They represent real
change and have made it a cornerstone of their campaign. The conservative
Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has stolen the limelight from
both Presidential Candidates and has energized this country with real hope that
is more that just a sound bite. I include myself among the many Americans who
haven’t been this excited about an election since Ronald Reagan.
